Legislative Deadlines

The schedule for the legislature is dictated by the State Constitution and the Joint Rules of the House and Senate. These deadlines are strict and affect the passage or defeat of bills. 

CCM urges you to review these deadlines to keep apprised of important dates.

LEGISLATIVE DEADLINES FOR THE 2012 GENERAL ASSEMBLY

  • February 8 Session Convenes - Governor's "State of the State" address.
  • February 10 Proposed Bill Deadline - For submission by individual legislators.
  • February 22-23 Committee Bill Deadlines: Initial deadline for submission to Legislative Commissioners Office (LCO) for drafting.
  • February 23 Raised Bill Deadline - Group B, Legislative Management and Select Committees:
    Submission to LCO for drafting.
  • February 24 Raised Bill Deadline - Group A Committees and Program Review & Investigations: Submission to LCO for drafting.
  • February 24 Raised Bill Deadline - Finance, Revenue & Bonding and Appropriations Committees.
  • March 15 - April 5 Committee Favorable and Unfavorable ("JF") Reports - due (see below for
    individual dates).
  • April 4 Favorable and Unfavorable Reports due by the Appropriations Committee.
  • April 5 Favorable and Unfavorable Reports due by the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee.
  • May 9 Session Adjourns

(S) Select Committee

* Committees are divided into two groups, A and B. This is to schedule committee meetings and public hearings, and to set deadlines for bills to the Legislative Commissioners' Office. Group A committees meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; Group B committees and select committees meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

(Exceptions are provided for the Appropriations and Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committees, and other committees under certain circumstances.)
